1. Estimating
N.C. Sturgeon uses TIMBERLINE estimating software to offer a guaranteed price to our clients. Our software database is continually revised to reflect our firm's man-hour production rate, current materials rate, and the latest insurance rates and modifiers. TIMBERLINE will identify materials, equipment, labor and any specific burdens that are job or task specific. After entering a project into TIMBERLINE, revisions can be made to substitute selected scenarios ensuring the architect and owner that the most efficient methods of design and construction have been utilized. When these scenarios are performed prior to the final design, hard dollar estimates/ bids can be achieved entirely during document stage.
In light of our estimating technology, we prefer the estimator/project manager to hold the single source of responsibility for each project. We do not dilute the construction process with "hand offs" from estimator to project manager to expediter/purchasing agent. The same person is responsible for estimating from initial concept through completion. This has proven to eliminate those items often over looked during construction.
2. Scheduling
We use PRIMAVERA scheduling software to ensure our projects are kept on schedule. Many may not know that PRIMAVERA is a sister company to TIMBERLINE and with both software packages in our system, we can perform man-hour audit reports to pinpoint each project progress, measure against projected schedule and identify needed adjustments. This is possible with self-performed work as well as with subcontractors. These two programs have been integrated to keep all parties informed of progress on any project or sub-project. We use both packages to develop a daily target for all self-performed tasks.
3. Design / Build
We design most of our projects entirely in house using architect and engineers. The key to the success of a design/build concept is the team, comprised of the owner's building committee or liaison and architect when applicable, N.C. Sturgeon's design and estimating team, and construction staff. The team's sole purpose is to provide a completed construction project, delivered on time, exceeding our clients' expectations of quality and appearance.
